Mama and baby...

I was fortunate to have this pair model for a series I'm working on- the mama being the focus. Carrie and her beautiful son Jaxon were wonderful and so fun to shoot. We took so many beautiful pictures during this shoot. What a happy boy he is, and so beautiful. Thanks to you both.

My family and I are going on vacation for the week- Disneyland here we come! I have several shoots coming up in the weeks following and look forward to sharing the photos with you. Hopefully we will catch up with Mickey and friends and get some pictures of them too. I'm hoping they will cooperate and look somber for a moment. Wish me luck.

A few of my favorite things...

It was such a beautiful day. I spent some time taking pictures around the house- the lighting was so nice. These are a view of my favorite spots/things...

Scanogram

I was recently introduced to some work by artist Andrea Kemler. Her work is stunning, so colorful and beautifully composed. The most amazing thing about it is it's all done with a large format scanner. A scanner is essentially a camera sitting tabletop. I'm not sure how she gets the vibrant colors she does, although I'm sure it has something to do with the quality of the equipment she is using.

Some of her images are strictly pieces she composed by laying the materials directly on the scanner. She also composes pieces digitally by layering her scanned images. I am in awe of it really.

I thought I would take a stab at it using my rinky dink scanner at home. I really had some fun with this. I started just with an idea about textures and went from there.

A Series of Portraits...

I started a series of portraits a few months back. It started as a small series, 10 photos, but I've taken more since. After some really positive feedback I've decided to continue the series and eventually publish it. I love these photos for many reasons. As I get further into it, I will provide more details, but for now I have to get all my paperwork ducks in a row. Right now I'm working on organizing and editing the photos I've taken. I'm undecided as to include color portraits, but if I do I will share some of those with you as well. Here are a couple of them...

Random...

When I was younger I used to carry around disposable cameras everywhere. Once I was able to afford a 35mm I bought it and it was my new BFF. I'e been documenting lives for years now. I don't have many pictures of myself as a child, which could possibly be the reason I'm so drawn to capturing everything now. I don't want to miss a thing.

I always have a camera with me. Most often I am taking pictures of people, but occasionally I see something I love or am inspired by something enough to want to create a vignette and shoot it. Here are some of my favorite photos I've taken of objects, scenes, and vignettes I set up. And then a couple with people.

Phlogging...

I've been poked and prodded, or some say encouraged, to share my work. So I begin with this phlog, otherwise known as photo blog. I'm sure the phrase has been coined, but in my household of three (the other two being my husband the lineman and our two year old) I'm happy to announce I came up with it first! So here it goes. It feels like a big step. I will share my work with you, whomever you may be.

I'm starting with some portraits I took with some willing participants while in a studio. I took them in black and white. I know a lot of people like to take their digital pics in color than change them to black and white later so they have more options. I prefer to see it as it is in black and white before I take the picture. Maybe it's a skill to be able to take it in color, knowing with confidence the black and white version will be great. But in pictures and in life, I'm not much of a gambler. On the other hand, I'm not afraid of commitment.

It's not often I'm in a studio, so this was a great opportunity. To have access to the professional lighting and equipment was priceless. I had a lot of fun with it. I love taking portraits. People really are my favorite subjects...
